I guess nature must be right...fight or flight is indeed a sub-conscious reaction to everyday stressful situations.
But there's one more thing that your cerebral cortex would tell you to do... do nothing.
If fight or flight is an immediate reaction without thinking, then doing nothing can be a rational conscious decision.
Doing nothing... is letting things happen to you... probably to the passive person....
Being calm in a fire or earthquake when everyone is pumped up with adrenaline running away from the fire or fighting it like those fireman.
So what could you do? If you can't control the forces around you, then it's better to just control yourself.
